We will divide the tutorial into 2 different sections; the first section is how to remove a hard drive or disk and the second is to install a new hard drive.

Removing a hard drive

Step 1

Disconnect all power connections for not only to make your work easier but also for safety reasons.

Step 2

Open up your PC or computer tower carefully by unscrewing all the screws at the back.

Step 3

Locate the hard drive which should be at the front of the computer or pc tower.

Step 4

If you have more than 1 hard drives already, look for the primary one. Disconnect all the connection cables that are connected with your hard drive. The primary hard drive normally has blue ribbon connector.

Step 5

Take off the hard drive after removing all the screws that are keeping it attached to the pc box.

Installing a new hard drive

Step 1

Determine if you are going to install a new hard drive as main hard disk or you want a secondary or back-up hard drive.

Step 2

Based on your decision on step 1, you will need to change the jumper settings on your hard drive. Jumper setting is basically a physical setting that tells your computer that you want the hard drive to be used as primary(Master) or secondary(Slave). Look for these setting instructions on the hard drive.

Step 3

Connect all the connection cords and place the hard disk in its slot.

Step 4

Screw the hard drive with tower.

Step 5

Screw back the back of the tower.

Step 6

Connect back all the power cables and start your computer. You will need to format the hard drive if it is a brand new disk; otherwise (if you just added a secondary/backup hard drive) you just have to change the settings.

Before we start this tutorial, one thing need to be mentioned here that IP address is assigned by your Internet Company or ISP and you have very little control over it. Most of the ISP provides dynamic IP address for their customers which changes automatically after certain period. But many ISP do not allow frequent renewal for IP address.

Step 1

Click “Start” menu of your computer and choose “Run” option.

Step 2

Type “cmd” in the run box and hit enter or click “OK”. It should open up a small back DOS window on your computer screen. Do not get scared, this is what exactly we need.

Step 3

Type “ipconfig/all” and hit enter. This command will show you many details of your networking connection including your current IP address. If you find it confusing use website like http://www.whatismyip.com/ to see your current IP, so that after following next few steps you will know if your IP has been changed or renewed successfully.

Step 4

Type “ipconfig/release” and press enter button. You should be able to see the complete command in the black screen while you are typing. After pressing the enter button, your computer will release the old IP address that you had been using.

Step 5

Type “ipconfig/renew” and press enter again. This will assign a new IP address for your computer.

Step 6

Type “exit” and hit enter for the last time. It will close the small black window. If you have done everything correctly in last few steps, you should have a new IP address for your computer. Redo step 3 to confirm that you have a new IP.

Step 1

If you have iPhone, you must have iTune installed in your comouter. If not, please install iTunes on your computer. You can download it for free at http://www.apple.com. Open iTune in your computer.

Step 2

Go to your music or song library and select the song you would like to use as iPhone ringtone. You cannot use the complete 3 or 5 minutes song as ringtone in your iPhone. Therefore, you need to select a part of the song that is most attractive to you. Most of the times, the chorus is the best part of any song.

Step 3

Write down the start and stop time of the clip. Right click the song and select “Get Info”. Click the “Options” tab.

Step 4

Type in start and the end time of your ringtone next to “Start Time” and “Stop Time” in minutes and seconds (i.e. 1:30 ). The start and the stop time duration cannot exceed more than 40 seconds. Once you have selected these two, click “OK”.

Step 5

Right click you song again and select “Convert Selection to ACC”. iTune should convert the ringtone now to proper format in a moment. iTune also creates duplicate of the ringtone file. Hence, you can delete the ringtone file that just been created and find the same file by clicking your “Keep Files” button in iTune.

Step 6

Find the ringtone file physically. It should be located at Music > iTunes > iTunes Music and under the brand or singer’s name folder.

Step 7

Once you find the ringtone file, rename it to “Use.m4r”. Keep in mind that the previous extension for the file was “m4a”.

Step 8

Double click the ringtone file after re-naming and it should be automatically added to your iTune ringtones library.

Step 9

Connect and sync your iPhone and your newly created iTune ringtone should be ready to use.

Note: Based on your iTune version and operating system version, the process stated here can be little different.

Step#1

If you do not have this popular CD burning software you can download it from http://www.nero.com. Download the software, install it, and start it from Start>Programs>Ahed Nero and select Nero-Burning Rom.

Step#2

When the Nero window opens (do not use the Nero Wizard), you should be able to see different recording types (CD, CD-ROM, DVD etc.), select the CD-ROM (ISO) icon and click on the “ISO” tab to configure your data files. Choose all the settings and click NEW.

Step#3

Drag and drop data files from the browser windows (right) to ISO1 windows, which is located on the left side of the window. After all the data selection, click the record button (11^th icon from the left)

Step#4

Once the recorder windows open, select the image recorder (in this case it will be your CD ROM), and click OK to start the process.

Step#5

Click the write CD dialog button (9^th from the left) or select Write CD from toolbar menu.

Step#6

Name your CD image and select a location to save it, click save.

Step#7

If you have followed all the above steps without any problem, the burning process should start at this stage. Once the process is successfully completed, Nero will prompt you. Click ok button to close the burning progress window.

Step#1 (Download WinRAR):

Download and install the latest version of the software WinRAR (http://www.rarlab.com) on your computer and you will be ready in no time to extract or unzip a rar file along with many other compressed file formats like Zip, CAB, ARJ, LZH, TAR, GZ, ACE, UUE, BZ2, JAR, ISO, 7Z, Z.

Step#2 (Open RAR file):

If you have received a .rar file in your e-mail, you might want to download it to your computer first. Once the rar file is downloaded on your computer, double click on it. It will open up a small window by WinRAR which will show you all the files that are compressed inside that rar archive/file.

Step#3 (Extract/the .rar file):

Click on the “Extract To” icon on the top navigation bar and it will ask you to select a location to extract all the files from that rar file. You can select any location you want but don’t forget the location you are about to unrar the file to.

After you select your preferred location, and click “OK”, you will see the extracting window for a short period.

Once the window is closed (automatically), your rar has been extracted completely at the location you chose in previous step.

Step#2 (Open Zip file):

If you received a .zip file in your e-mail, you might want to download it to your computer first. Once the zip file is downloaded on your computer, double click on it. It will open up a small window by WinRAR which will show you all the files that are compressed inside that zip archive/file.

Step#3 (Extract/Unzip the .zip file):

Click on the “Extract To” icon on the top navigation bar and it will ask you to select a location to extract all the files from that zip file. You can select any location you want but don’t forget the location you are about to unzip the file to.

After you select your preferred location, and click “OK”, you will see the unzipping windows for a short period.

Once the window is closed (automatically), your zip has been unzipped completely at the location you chose in previous step.

Backup important information

Windows 7 installation process will prompt few times for information like computer name, user name, password, date etc. You should name your computer like “My Computer” or “John’s Computer” instead of just “PC”. Keep in mind that user name and computer name are different. If you are willing to use a password for computer, feel free to do so. Otherwise, you can keep the password field blank.

One more information that you will require to enter is your Windows 7 activation key. If you want, you can skip that during install but Microsoft will force you to enter that information within 7 days of Windows 7 operating system installation.
