Improving English grammar can boost both your writing and speaking quality. If you are interested in learning English grammar or improving your grammar skill, the following article can help you to do that in few simple ways.

Step 1

Planning and determination are two things that you will need to have at the beginning of any learning process, especially when it comes to language. Therefore, make a plan on how often you would like to practice, how details you want to learn about English grammar and so on. Keep in mind that it takes time to see outcome for such learning.

Step 2

A very good start to improve your grammar will be to observe people of your native language. It is very likely that people who speak the same language will do the same mistakes in grammar. So, once you analyze their speaking and contrast with your own, you should be able to pin point some larger mistakes.

Step 3

Secondly, buy a grammar exercise book and practice in the area where you tend to do most of your mistakes. Pointed out mistaken areas from step 2 can help you at this stage a lot. Also, do some online quizzes. The more you will practice, the faster you will be able to catch your own mistakes and will be able to fix them.

Step 4

Pay closer attention while you are reading English. You can even try to translate newspaper or magazine articles to English. It will help you a lot from the point of view that you can view and correct your own mistakes afterward.

Step 5

The final method is to have conversations with English speaking friends who are good at speaking English and do not use slang.

Abbreviation of a word is convenient in many ways including saving time and be cool. It became a part of our regular communication specially in text messaging. In this article we will discuss how to abbreviate a word for text messaging purpose.

Abbreviation can be used in text messaging, in chat room or even in a short email. But it becomes a necessity in text messaging since cell phone system restrict the amount of characters can be used for texting.

While abbreviating it is important to make sure that the abbreviated word is understandable by others. There are many universal standards abbreviate words like “lol” (laugh out loud), “omg” (Oh my God), “idk” (I don’t know) etc.

Some of the rules for abbreviating words are:

Try to keep it simple

Short but meaningful

Leaving out letters is primary; you can even leave out some words if it only makes sense.

Vowels are easy to omit although some consonants can be leave out.

Do not try to save space and time by omitting space too. Leave spaces between abbreviated words.

If you come up with a new abbreviation, make sure you include a summary of it at the beginning so that you can use it later anytime.

ty – thank you

ilu- i love you

2night – tonight

u2 – you too

<3 – heart

aslp – age, sex, location, picture

asap – as soon as possible

fyi – for your information

b4 – before

brb – be right back

cya – see you

ttyl – talk to you later

bff- best friend forever

btw – by the way

cuz – because

ditto – same here

diy – do it yourself

dunno – i do not know

gf/bf – girl friend/ boy friend

g8 – great

gtg - got to go

huh – what?

Jk – just kidding

Book report is simply a summary of a book. But this summary needs to be focused on the key topics or the main idea of the book. The entire summary also should be in a formal presentable form which may sounds complicated but we will discuss it in few easy steps.

Step#1

Thoroughly read the book and take notes of the topics that are emphasized and related to the main idea of the book. You can also use post-it flags to mark all the important pages and go back later to combine them.

Step#2

Before you start to write your report by gathering all your notes, ask yourself questions like why author wrote the book? What made you read the book? What are the key points of the book? What need to be excluded from the summary of the book? etc.

Step#3

Once you have all the answers of above, start with a brief outline of the book, followed by the main section of the book report which will include entire work from step 1 and step 2. Be sure not to go too in-depth (one page to elaborate a single topic) of any topic as well as not too brief (a complete topic in one sentence only).

Step#4

At the end, add a conclusion of the book summary you just wrote. The significance of the book, the potential contribution of the book, any negative aspects of it and about author’s opinion on the whole idea can be few things can be included in this last section of the book report.

Step#1

Create a page at the end of the paper and name it “Bibliography”.

Step#2

List and sort all author’s last names and sources used in the writing alphabetically. Author’s last name will come first, followed by a comma and then the first name followed by a period.

If the used source is from a book, write the book title in italic font style, followed by a period. You may underline the book name too.

If the used source was from an article rather than a book, cite the name of the article inside quotation marks, in place of a book title. You also need to write the journal or magazine name including its volume number if the article was a part of a journal or magazine.

Step#3

Now you need to name the location where the article or the book was published, followed by a colon.

Step#4

Include the name of the published, followed by a comma.

Step#5

Finish the bibliography entry by adding the date of publication, followed by a period.

Add number to your bibliography pages when adding page number to your paper.

When you need to use content from someone’s website, either for an academic paper or for your own formal writing, proper reference needs to be provided. Otherwise the content will consider as plagiarized. Citing a website can be done in few different ways but in this how to cite a website tutorial we will discuss only APA (American Psychological Association) style reference.

Step#1

At first, we need to find out the name of the author from whose website we will use content from. The format for the name citation has to done in a specific format. Last name will come first followed by a comma and then first letter of author’s first name followed by period. If there is no individual author for the website content, you can use the website owner’s name as reference.

Step#2

Next, we need to find out the date (article publication year) of the article. Date for an article normally stated at the beginning after the authors name and should be within parentheses.

Step#3

Determine the title of the article. The name or the title of the article should be listed after the publication year and should be by capitalizing the first letter of the first word. The rest of the letters are lowercase and followed by period.

Step#4

After the title, you need to mention the access or revivals date of the article/website followed by a comma, month, date and year of access.

Step#5

List the link or URL of the webpage retrieval followed by “Retrieved from”. If there is no static/permanent link for the article, use the main website link.

Step#6

The last step is to add the complete website citation into your own content or article.

Good spelling is not just to win a contest. Spelling words correctly will improve your writing quality and if you are a student, a better grade can be another reward. It can be very difficult to remember the spelling of a word sometimes. In the following article we will learn few simple tips on how to improve your spelling.

Method #1

One of the easiest ways to remember spelling is breaking down syllables. Most of the dictionaries have this feature. If you are struggling with a spelling, get reference from an online or offline dictionary on how to break those sounds or syllables. An example of such syllables breakdown for term syllable is “syl⋅la⋅ble”.

Method #2

The second way to remember correct spelling is the words inside a word technique. As for example, the term “personal” is often misspelled as “personnel” which refers to totally different thing. If we use the words in word method, we can see that there are 2 words inside the word “personal” – person and persona. Looking for similar term inside word that you prefer to eat, name of family, friends or personal associate can help a lot too.

Another example for such method can be explained with word “Echinacea” (name of an herb). This word has the word “CHINA” inside it; the very first is easy “E”, and all you have to remember the last part which is “cea”.

Method #3

Finally, remembering what makes a word misspelled and what makes it correct. As for example term “definitely” often misspelled as “definately”. Misspelled “definately” consists of the word “ATE” which should trigger you to fix the spelling error because “ate” pronounce as eight and it’s incorrect form.

There are many more ways to make spelling easier. These are just few of them that I thought are very useful for me. It does not matter if you are in a spelling bee contest or scrabble game, some of these methods will surely come in handy for you.
