How to Tie a Windsor Knot

Tying a tie is not as hard as you think. Double knots or Windsor knot for tie uses one more knot than regular tying which makes it more stable and fuller. In the following article we will learn how to tie a tie using Windsor knot by step by step.

Step 1

Lift up your shirt collar and put the tie around back of your neck. Keep the wide end of the tie on the side of you dominant hand (if you are right-handed, wide end goes on the right side. If you are left-handed, wide side goes on the left side.). The wide end needs to be hanged twice much in length than the narrow end.

Cross the wide end once over the narrow end keeping the front side of the tie outer.  Make sure you keep few inches distance from your neck to the tie.

Bring the wide end up through the V shape loop between the collars (from back).

Wrap the wide side around the knot from dominant to non-dominant hand side. Continue to wrap it until you finish a full loop and the wide end is on the front.

Now, slide the wide end of the tie through the front to back like shown in the image.

Bring the wide end from back and wrap it again around the knot.

After one loop the wide end should be in the back which will give you the opportunity to bring the end to front under the last knot (sort of tuck it in) you have just created.

Step 8

Pull the wide end down gently once you tuck it in under the loop at the end of previous step. Make sure the knot is tight and not falling apart.

Step 9

Hold the narrow end of the tie in one hand and use other hand to pull the tie knot up in order to make it more stable and close the gap between your neck and the tie loop.

Step 10

You have tied a Windsor knot. Do not forget to flip your collar down at the end.
