Microsoft’s new operating system Windows 7 is already creating big buzz. The system came out on October 22nd 2009. In this tutorial we will discuss how to install windows operating system briefly in 3 easy steps. Microsoft Windows 7 has many useful features, tons of utilities which will make your life much easier.

Backup important information

If you are planning to install the Windows 7 operating system on a new hard drive, then ignore this part of the article. But if you already have a large hard disk and willing to install Windows 7 then you need to backup all your important data at a safe place OR setup a new partition on your computer’s hard drive. Backup can be done in DVD’s, USB or even in a separate smaller hard disk. Make sure to backup directories like C:\Users, C:\Windows, C:\Downloads etc. Losing years of priceless data can be devastating.

Start Installing Windows 7

Microsoft Windows 7 installation is easier than other Windows versions. If your computer has multiple monitor setups, the installation can be done while you are working on other project until first reboot. However, if you have single monitor, you need to take a break since the windows 7 installation will take about half an hour to an hour to complete. Simply insert the Windows 7 installation CD/DVD, click on “Install Now” button. In next screen, you will need to select “Custom Install”.

Complete the Installation of Windows 7

Windows 7 installation process will prompt few times for information like computer name, user name, password, date etc. You should name your computer like “My Computer” or “John’s Computer” instead of just “PC”. Keep in mind that user name and computer name are different. If you are willing to use a password for computer, feel free to do so. Otherwise, you can keep the password field blank.

One more information that you will require to enter is your Windows 7 activation key. If you want, you can skip that during install but Microsoft will force you to enter that information within 7 days of Windows 7 operating system installation.
